Registration
Registration for the race will open on Tuesday, June 1st at 8 AM. A link to register will be on the ‘Registration’ page on June 1st. The entry fee for individuals is $55 from June 1st to July 15th and $65 from July 16th to August 20th. The entry fee for teams is $75 from June 1st to July 15th and $90 from July 16th to August 5th. If the race meets capacity we will have a wait list that will be created. You will only be guaranteed a race shirt if you register by July 15th. Included with the entry fee each participant will receive a one day pass into Splash Montana that can be used either the day of the race or on Sunday, August 7th.
Cancellation/Refund/Transfer Policy
A refund of 50% of the registration fee will be provided only if you cancel by July 26th and your slot is filled by another racer on the wait list. Therefore, if the Zootown Tri does not sell out you won’t receive a refund. This is due to the cost of your registration, gear, and liability insurance that we purchase for you when you register. Registration fee transfers are not allowed.
First Time Triathletes
There will be at least one heat for first time triathletes. If this is your first triathlon and you would like to race with other first timers, please select the “Try a Tri” heat when you register. This heat will be filled on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis. If we can fill another heat of first time triathletes we will do so. But we will not guarantee we will be able to put everyone who wants to be in a “Try a Tri” heat in one. Again, this will be on a first come first serve basis.
Elite Heats
We will have elite heats by gender and they will be the last heats of the day. Elite heats will only have two swimmers per lane. The top 16 triathletes will automatically be placed into this heat based on predicted overall finish and swim times.
Start Times
The first swim heat will start at 7 AM. Start times for the swim heats will be posted on this website on Thursday, August 4th and will also be posted during pickup of the race packets. Heats are based on estimated swim time and finish times.
Race Packet Pickup
The race packet pickup will be on Friday, August 5th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Splash Montana entrance and Saturday, August 6th starting at 5:45 AM also at Splash Montana.
Mandatory Race Meeting
There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting the morning off the race at 6:40 a.m. Details and rules of the race and course will be discussed at this meeting. This includes hazards along the course. when you can set up your transition area, where your bike will be following the race, and much more.
Locker Rooms
The Splash Montana locker rooms will be available for participants only. There will be port-a-potties for spectators. Please ask your spectators to respect this policy.
Awards & Schwag
There will be awards for the top three male and female finishers in each age category. The age categories for awards are as follows: 19 and below, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, 70+. There will also be drawings for merchandise donated by local businesses.
Food
Food and drinks will be at the finish for participants only.
Rules
• Wet suits are NOT allowed.
• There is absolutely no drafting allowed on the bike. There must be two bike lengths between riders. If you draft you will be disqualified. Race officials will be on the course.
• Ride to the right side of the lane at all times except when directed to turn by a race official or police officer.
• Bicyclists are not allowed to cross the yellow center line.
• Helmets must be properly secured and clipped under your chin prior to leaving the transition area. They must remain on until after you have dismounted the bicycle.
• Only participants are allowed in the transition area, spectators found in the transition area will be fed to the local bears!
• No music devices are allowed at anytime on the course.
• Please do not discard any garbage along the course.
• It is each participant's responsibility to know the course and any hazards along the course.
